5 Tips for Running an efficient Adwords campaign

Over the past few years, services such as Google Adwords have emerged and can be very handy for immediate and high impact direct online marketing - for advertising your product or service. Whereas before online marketing might have consisted of simply tagging a few keywords that were relevant to your company, product or services, now a PPC campaign has more options and features, allowing your advertising campaign to create more traffic and more visitors to your site.

If you are looking to run a successful Adwords campaign, here are five tips to bear in mind:

1. Be relevant

In order to ensure the highest quality ads, Google uses a system called Quality Score, that can potentially affect your ad costs and performance. As such, you must make sure that information such as keywords, landing page content and site ads are as relevant to the users as possible. If not, it could potentially damage the standing of your site.

2. Sell benefits. Not features

Every site offers features that their rivals do not have, but for most users what is of even more importance is what they can potentially get out of it. By asking 'what is in it for me?', you can decide what your site needs to attract potential visitors. Think of your site as selling a car, while many people may not understand the large number of features that car salesmen will list when describing it, they will respond to information such as 'it will protect your family in a crash' or 'it handles well on wet surfaces'. Selling your website is the same thing, sell the benefits, not the features.

3. Decide the location of your target

The thing about being online is you can reach the whole world, but that may not be your goal.  If your company is specific to English speaking territories, make sure your ads target countries such as the UK, US and Australia, instead of North Africa. Likewise if you company is just localised, make sure your ads are set to this region, otherwise you could waste time and money appealing to a pointless target market.

4. Track everything

It is the only way to know if your ads are effective, so make sure you track whether your ads are reaching the right audience and make sure you find the right mix between search and content delivery.

5. Always test

Do not be afraid to test and try different variations on your ads. They could make a difference in clicks and increase revenue. This could mean changing the title of the ad to make it more appealing or even the colours and images. By doing 'split tests', you get to make sure you create the highest amount of ad clicks possible.
